          is a beginning
          middle and
          time on earth
          a kind of story
          but the simplicity
          of that description
          won’t wash
          because the box
          the life gets put in
          has a top and bottom
          but no sides
          and so all the things
          that happen to you
          keep spilling out
          so much of
          who I am
          connecting to who you are
          that my story
          has you in it
          and I’m in yours
          watching out for so many
          rhythms
          the drums that keep
          insisting
          I know their language
          when all I really know
          is their sound
